Strandhill Surf Forecast
About Strandhill
Strandhill is a long, sandy west-facing beach a short drive from Sligo town, sitting in the shadow of Knocknarea. It's one of the most popular surf beaches in the country - multiple peaks shift up and down the beach with the tide and swell, so there's almost always something working somewhere. The main beach handles most conditions; Bluerock at the right (north) end is a separate setup that comes alive on bigger swells and works best on a higher tide.
The Strandhill village strip has everything a surfer needs - surf schools, board hire, the surf hub and several cafes and pubs all backing the beach. The main car park fills quickly on any good day; a reliable backup is the parking behind the Strand Bar at the south end. The beach can produce genuinely epic waves when a clean NW swell lines up with light easterly offshores.
Hazards & Notes
- Sewerage has been an issue at Bluerock - check water quality reports
- Beach can throw heavy closeouts on bigger swells
- Strong rips on bigger days - read the beach before paddling out
- Can get crowded on clean swells and weekends in season
