Easkey Left Surf Forecast
About Easkey Left
Easkey Left is one of Ireland's most respected reef breaks - a long, walling left-hander that runs down a flat sandstone shelf at the mouth of the Easkey River, on the north Sligo coast. When a clean NW groundswell of 1.5m+ lines up with a SE offshore wind, it delivers some of the cleanest, longest left-hand rides in the country.
The wave likes a long period - 12 seconds and up - to wrap properly around the reef. It works best on a dropping mid-to-low tide; very low exposes the inside section and gets dangerous, and a pushing high softens the wall. Easkey village itself is small, and parking is informal along the river / harbour - keep clear of locals' driveways.
The right-hand reef on the other side of the river mouth - Easkey Right - is a separate setup that breaks on similar swells.
Hazards & Notes
- Sharp sandstone reef - urchins, cuts and the occasional dunking
- Strong current sweeping toward the river mouth on a dropping tide
- Very low tide exposes shallow inside section - dangerous
- Cold water year-round, even in summer - wear a proper wetsuit
- Locally respected lineup - sit, watch and earn your turn
