About Elly Bay

Elly Bay is a north-facing crescent of sand on the Mullet peninsula, near Belmullet. It's the most popular individual surf spot in the area - sheltered from the prevailing SW winds by the peninsula itself, with a forgiving beach that handles size well.

The bay catches W to N swells and works on S offshore winds - the opposite wind window from most of the west coast, which is part of why it's such a useful spot. Mid tide is the sweet spot. The surf school here is one of the most experienced in the area.
