About Stoney Gap
Stoney Gap is the southernmost of the named Maharees peaks, on the long west-facing strand that runs north from Stradbally towards Fahamore. It takes the same W–NW swell window as the rest of Brandon Bay and is at its cleanest on a SE wind, which blows straight offshore here.
It's a classic open beach peak — shifting banks, plenty of room, and a good option when Mossies is crowded. Mid tide works best.
Hazards & Notes
- Rips between sandbars on bigger swells
- Closeouts when the swell is oversized
- Cold water year-round
