About Candeehy
Candeehy (the Bay Beach) is the small north-facing strand at the very tip of the Maharees, tucked into Scraggane Bay between Fahamore and Kilshannig Point. Facing NNW it takes NW–N swell straight in, and a southerly wind — onshore everywhere else on the bay's west shore — is offshore here.
That different exposure is the point: on a north swell with a southerly wind it can be the cleanest wave on the peninsula. Works through most of the tide.
Hazards & Notes
- Rocks and the pier at the bay's edges
- Fishing boats use Scraggane pier — keep clear of the channel
- Cold water year-round
