The Peak (Bundoran) Surf Forecast
About The Peak
The Peak is the wave that put Bundoran on the surfing map - a heavy, fast, hollow right-hander breaking over a shallow sandstone reef directly in front of town. When a clean NW groundswell lines up with a SE offshore wind, it produces one of the most photographed waves in Ireland: short, square barrels grinding down the inside section in front of the Bundoran promenade.
The Peak likes a long period and needs at least 1.2 metres of swell to start firing. Mid tide is the sweet spot - the reef gets shallow and dangerous on a low push, and the wave loses its shape at high. Bundoran town is the surf capital of the north-west: surf shops, schools, board hire and accommodation all within walking distance.
Crowds are part of the deal here. The Peak has a well-established local crew and a clear pecking order. Sit wide, watch how the lineup moves, and ease in.
Hazards & Notes
- Shallow reef - wear a helmet on bigger days, the inside section is unforgiving
- Crowds when it's on - local pecking order matters
- Body-bashing on the inside section · know your way out
- Strong rip running toward the rocks on the right
- Cold water year-round
