About Portrush West Strand
West Strand is the beach on the west side of the Portrush peninsula, opposite East Strand. It faces NNW and tends to be more sheltered from the wind by the peninsula itself - useful when the prevailing SW wind blows out East Strand.
The beach catches W to N swells and works on S offshore winds. It's smaller and more crowded with bathers in summer than East Strand, but a reliable pick for surf schools and beginners on a clean day. Easy access from the seafront.
